Everybody has a day where they either dreaded it for life, or look forward with much excruciating anticipation. Perhaps we were mostly the latter when we started growing up - fantasizing about how generous and wonderful that day would be with rainbow ponies and flying unicorns etc. Alas, as we mature with time, we slowly disregard that day, as it playfully marks how time has no pity on our aging selfs.
By now, some of you are nodding silently in consent, some of you are still hanging quizzical looks on your faces ... And that day is none other than BIRTHDAYS.
To clear the air, it was not my birthday. It was my Hubby's, and the party I've so cleverly and aptly planned was a week prior to his actually birth date! Well, mostly it is because I was hoping he would not suspect much as I am a pretty BAD liar, always laughing, giggling, making weird facial expressions, twitching my eyebrows whenever I tell a lie. So the moment he asked me why I was being so secretive, I was quite bad at covering up, so I had to fake a lot of things through. Frankly speaking, at the end, I'm not so sure whether he knew about it already or not ... Ohwells :P
I was really stressed out on that day - waking up in the wee hours of the morning to start preparing the food as the party supposedly started around 12noon. Then I had to get the decorations done, pasting the balloons on the wall and whatnot. Thank goodness I had my mother, grandmother and maid to help me out greatly in the kitchen. I also want to thank my friends: Cheryl, Raymond and Kenrick for coming quite early to blow the balloons, which was considered one of my greatest fears :P
Luckily, Hubby got home quite late the previous night so he was literally sleeping through the entire morning. When most of the guests had arrived, I went back to my room to wake up my Sleeping Beauty. He sat up straight with droopy eyes and heavy eyelids, as he yawned and asked me what the time was. I told him the time and also shared with him that I had a secret for him in the living room! This got him sitting up straight within the second! He rubbed his eyes and blinked at me, and so I slowly escorted him out to the hall, covering his eyes at the same time.
My living room was linked to the main balcony and my mother had the segment there covered with curtains, so everybody hid behind the curtains while waiting for the right moment to burst out. The instance I took my hands away from Hubby's eyes, everybody screamed a joyous 'Happy Birthday'! Hubby almost jumped out of his skin when he saw that, and the first action he did was to hang onto his super loose pj-pants, making everybody burst into a roar of great laughter.
And this was Hubby's reaction for the camera, and as you can see, he is still in his pjs which also can be used as training attire, casual wear etc :)
I also invited a few of Hubby's closer students to surprise him, and they bought him super adorable gifts. One of those gifts include a dog basket for our future dog to sleep in! Hahahaha, but of course that is another story to tell.
An awesome spread that was gracefully and professionally prepared by the three superb women in the household - grandmother, mother and maid! :) Well I did help out a few, but the main parts of cooking/baking were mostly done by those women. Since I had a few BIG eaters in the house, my mother also ordered some pizza to keep those appetite filled!
A huge thanks to the couple in front - Ray&Cheryl for being really awesome friends, and after going out on a few couple-dates with them, I feel they are really wonderful people to hang around with. I'm so glad that I got to know them!
I also want to thank my auntie and elder cousin (behind) for taking time off their busy schedule to attend Hubby's birthday surprise party. My auntie has been really caring and amazing to my entire family as she and her entire family had also welcomed my bf in with smiles and kindness. It is something that my bf has never encountered before since my other cousins, uncles and aunties don't really communicate or took the initiative to get to know him. But my bf is really grateful to have met that awesome family, and so am I.
My Hubby preparing his birthday speech before everybody can tuck into the delicious goodness laid before their very eyes.
Say hi to my adorable cuzzy! Hahaha. I've had a lot of great times with this girl here, and of course I also shared my darkest moments with her. It was thanks to her that I managed to get through most of my hurdles in life and after growing up together for so long, knowing that she is doing awesome in her studies and passion is a huge motivation for me. This girl here is my HUGE inspiration in life :) You go babe! Even though she and her brother(guy behind her) can't speak Chinese very well, they still take the pure effort to communicate with my bf. I love them mega lots!
Here is another shot of unglam Hanxian to add into my collection! :) Thanks dude for making your way down from ... your house (LOL paiseh I forgot where you stay!) and partaking in this jubilant occasion. It has been a real joy to have met you from Kosmos Cheerleading and I hope that we will continue to work hard in cheer and do our very best! Cheers!!
Another two people I would like to thank would be these two buddies - Kenrick and Yongli. It has been a really great pleasure to have met these two from POS. Back then when we were just starting out in Cheer, it was always filled with fun and laughter with these two around. Even though we lost contact during the years in between, I'm glad that you two managed to turn up for Hubby's birthday party! I hope that with well-planned opportunities, we will get to hang out together again sometime soon!!!! :D
Another couple I would like to thank would be Shihui and her bf. Even though I do not know Shihui very well, but Hubby has told me many wonderful stories of her when they were back in Gusto. Her never-dying spirit and perseverance made my bf really glad he had met her back then. From then onwards, I have looked up to her as a very true inspiration in Cheerleading and not letting setbacks take over one's passion. Thank you Shihui for coming down to celebrate Cc's birthday party! Sorry that you had to take quite a long journey to buy the cake and all! :P But Cc was so deeply in love with the cake. Haha.
These are all the Polaroids I've taken of our party guests! Sorry if they all look blur/unclear .. that's because of the special effects :P Hahahaha.
Hello Haagen-Dazs. We met again.
Hubby and I have been wanting to eat their chocolate fondue for like EONS, but we never got the chance cause we knew we couldn't finish it with just the two of us. Plus with it situated at such an odd spot like Tampines - a place far away from most of our friends, we decided to take this golden opportunity and celebrate such a wondrous moment with his students.

One side is filled with BALLS OF ICE CREAM! The other side is filled with crackers, cookies and fruits, and all in all, it was filled with so much sinful chocolate, I could not resist my lust for it anymore.
And thus ended Hubby's birthday celebration. Even though Hubby was not really looking forward to his birthday, I'm glad he had enjoyed his celebration with some of his closest friends.
Dearest Chen Cheng,
As you aged another year, I am so glad to be able to participate by your side in such a blissful occasion. As this day draws to another end, I sit back to think about all the events that had happened in such a year - there were many merry moments, and there were many morose days. There were times when we were high in cloud nine, there were times when we were depressed like hell. You have suffered many days of countless hours of non-stop working, all because you wanted a good future for the both of us. You endured days when your clients treat you like you were replaceable, making you burn in a fist of fury at the end of the day. Yet you still gritted your teeth and sat through those horrendous hours.
At the end of the day, you return home, worn out from your work, with eyes filled with fatigue and exhaustion.
My dear, I can't tell you how much I love you and adore your spirit, as words alone are not enough to express my honor for you. When you have set a goal in mind, you will work towards it without a shadow of doubt. You did not let anyone stand in your way, you did not let your enemies drag you down. That alone hones my admiration for you ever more. Even though I would give you hell on most of the days, you still let it rang through your face, and at the end, you still told me you love me. It was more than enough.
My dear, I want to say Happy Birthday! And with another year gone passed, I wish you another great year ahead! The past has indeed come back to honor you, as the effort you had sown in had slowly paved your way to greater success. No matter how small the steps you take, you will always take one step every day, knowing you will achieve your goals one day. And I believe strongly in you.
I love you Chen Cheng.
